The Beppu Hell Tour — known in Japanese as Jigoku Meguri (地獄めぐり) — is Kyushu’s most famous sightseeing experience and one of the most visually dramatic attractions in all of Japan. Unlike the hot spring baths that Beppu is famous for bathing in, the jigoku (“hells”) are geothermal pools so hot, so concentrated, and so strangely colored that they have been designated for viewing rather than bathing.
